Sri Lanka Natural Coffee Project / スリランカ・ナチュラルコーヒー・プロジェクト2013年春

The first café that serves a natural Sri Lankan coffee will be opened next to a world heritage in Sri Lanka. Although It is hard to believe now, this area was plagued by terror during the serious civil war until 2009. The war remains many social problems such as povaty and high suiside ratio. This project has three visions through a coffee industry. Firstly, it supports women’s and rural area independent. Secondly, it makes progress of revival of Sri Lankan coffee. Thirdly, this project proposes “Visible Fair Link” as a new fair-trade concept. Sri Lanka was the third largest country of coffee production until 1868. After the serious disease of coffee tree, the production was dynamically replaced into a tea. The coffee seemed to be extinct, but actually there are many natural trees.

スリランカ・キャンディにある世界遺産・仏歯寺の隣にスリランカコーヒーの専門カフェがオープンしようとしている。スリランカでは、2009年まで26年も悲惨な内戦が続いていた。今ではすっかり平穏な仏歯寺でも以前は爆弾テロにあった。内戦はいまだ貧困や高い自殺率など多くの社会問題を残す。 スリランカ・ナチュラルコーヒープロジェクトは、天然のコーヒーを通して女性の経済的自立、コーヒー文化の普及、目に見える形でのフェアトレード（地産地消と輸出の両立）の推進を柱に走り始めている。 紅茶で有名なスリランカは、実は1868年まではコーヒー生産高世界第三位をほこる国だった。突如として蔓延した病気で木が死滅し、その後紅茶生産に置き換わった。しかし消えてしまったと思われたコーヒーは、森の中で静かに自生していた。
